ROSEVILLE, CA (MPG) — Wine Country Curling Club’s Brian Feldman, Jr. (Sacramento/Florin, CA) and Coyotes Curling Club’s Andie McDonald (Phoenix, AZ) captured the 2026 Mountain Pacific Curling Association (MoPac) Mixed Doubles Championship this past weekend at Coyotes Curling Club in Tempe, Arizona, earning the regional title after an impressive playoff run through a competitive 16-team field.
The pair completed the weekend with a 5-1 record. Following pool play, McDonald (age 24) and Feldman Jr. (age 22) ranked second in their pool and sixth overall. Saturday night’s semifinal delivered one of the most exciting games of the event, with McDonald/Feldman Jr. narrowly securing a 6-5 victory to advance to Sunday morning’s final. Once there, the young team delivered a dominant performance, winning 7-1 to claim the championship banner.
The Mountain Pacific Curling Association (MoPac) is a regional association of the United States Curling Association, encompassing the states of Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, and Utah. Winning the regional championship places McDonald and Feldman Jr. among the top mixed doubles teams in the region.
Mixed doubles curling is one of the fastest-growing disciplines in the sport and has surged in popularity since becoming an Olympic event. Interest in the format received another boost this year when Team USA’s Cory Thiesse and Korey Dropkin captured a historic silver medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy, shining a spotlight on the exciting, fast-paced nature of mixed doubles curling. Unlike traditional four-person curling, mixed doubles is played by one man and one woman per team, with each player throwing five stones over eight ends. Every end begins with two stones pre-positioned on the ice, creating a fast-paced format built around strategy, precision, and teamwork.
For McDonald and Feldman Jr., the win represents years of growth and dedication. “Junior and I have been curling together for a few years now, and it’s really rewarding to see all the hard work pay off,” said McDonald. “We didn’t play perfectly all weekend, but we trusted each other, stayed positive, and found ways to win the big moments.” The pair has been curling together since 2021, steadily developing into one of the region’s exciting young teams to watch.
As regional champions, McDonald and Feldman Jr. will each receive a championship banner to proudly display at their home clubs: Coyotes Curling Club in Tempe, Arizona, and Wine Country Curling Club at Skatetown Ice in Roseville, California. “It’s pretty special knowing we’ll get to hang a banner at Skatetown,” said Feldman Jr. “We’ve put a lot of time into mixed doubles, so being able to bring something back to our club makes this win even more meaningful.”
Their victory highlights the continued growth of curling in the western United States.
